Questions And Answers about Burning

If you have any questions regarding Burning, or Burn Permits, please call our Administration Office at (619) 445-2635.

How do I apply for a Burn Permit?
You will need to come to the Alpine Fire Department Business Office located at 1364 Tavern Rd., Monday - Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (Closed for lunch between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m.) to fill out the upper portion of the Permit and sign and date both forms.

On permissive burn days, the Fire Inspector will come to your residence and inspect the feeder pile and area for compliance.  The burn permit will be left on your front door if everything checks out OK.

On the bottom of the permit will be the dates you will be allowed to burn.

Not every day is a permissive burn day, you will be given a phone number on your permit to call each day, no earlier than 8:15 a.m. each day you wish to burn. Have your Permit with you when you call.

If it is a permissive burn day, you may burn until the designated time stated on your permit.

When your burn is completed, you must call the dispatch center again and notify them you are finished for the day.
You must follow this procedure for the duration of your burn permit.

You may not renew your burn permit by telephone if you do not use it within the 15 day allotment.  You must come back to the Fire Department and fill out another permit.

What do I do if I believe someone is burning without a permit, or on a NO burn day?
You can contact the dispatch center at 619 441-1621 and they will dispatch an engine to investigate.

What if the smoke bothers me when my neighbor is burning?
You can call the Air Pollution Control District and file a complaint.  The telephone number is (858) 650-4550.
